St. Louis Horror Convention Part 3: The Finale

As I have promised, here is the final posting and probably the best one because of the fun celebrity pictures. The first celebrity we met was Kane Hodder. If you don't recognize his name, then you will recognize his movie credits. He is most famous as his role of Jason in Friday the 13th Part 7, 8, 9, and 10. Kane played Jason the longest and is by far my favorite. He is also my boyfriend Sasquatches hero. Kane has also been Victor Crowley in Hachet 1 and 2, he also played BTK in the newest BTK movie, and he played Ed Gein in the newest Ed Gein movie. Kane is also notorious for randomly being in movies because he is a stuntman. My favorite random role he played was the pissed off dad that beat up the van in the skateboard movie Grind. Kane Hodder also has a biography coming out in September that we will be owning in case you are interested.
I didn't realize it, but Kane was actually choking Sasquatch, and trust me that is all Sasquatch can talk about.

The next person we met was Bill Johnson, who is famous for his role as Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2. Bill was really awesome to meet, he was super nice and we brought our copy of the movie for him to sign and he spent some time just making sure his autograph was special and fun.
On Saturday the first person we talked to and met was Brad Loree, who played Michael in Halloween: Resurrection. Brad is a little bit crazy, but in a fun sort of way, we discussed beer as the breakfast of champions, because it was 10am and he was enjoying beer. He told Sasquatch that for the photo he wanted to choke him, but as you can see it was no where near a Kane Hodder choke.
One of the coolest people that we met at the convention was Tony Todd aka Candy Man and yes the New Orleans accent is real, I had no idea and it took me by surprise. He talked to us for over ten minutes about his new movie Sushi Girl that stars him and Mark Hamil (Luke Skywalker, but I hope you knew that) that is coming out soon. We also talked about Teefury because he liked our t shirts, about him and Kane working together on Hachet, and many other things. We even stopped by and talked to him a little more on Sunday and he was actually excited to talk to us some more, we weren't just another face and that was really a surprise to me because all the celebrities that we met were like that. If they saw Sasquatch and I, they at least said hi, if not stopped and talked to us. Kane even put his hand on Jays shoulder to ask about the belly dancers we were watching. I was actually expecting them to be more "I'm here for a job, which is signing autographs and when I'm not doing that don't bother me," but none of them were like that and it was amazing.
The lst people we met on Sunday were the Boondock Saints, we waited until Sunday because Norman Reedus had to work on the set of The Walking Dead on Friday so he couldn't come until Saturday, but Delta messed up his flight, so we wasn't suppose to come until 5:00 on Saturday. Unfortunately, we wasn't able to make it, but we were able to meet Sean Patrick Flanery and David Della Rocco. Sean played Conner MacManus, one of the brothers and David played Rocco, their sorta sidekick. If you haven't seen The Boondock Saints, first of all shame on you, its an amazing movie and second of all go run out and see it even if you have because it is just a fun movie, it's funny and original. We were the first ones in line to meet them, which I didn't like because I hate being first on anything, so I was trying to get some people to get in front of us, but Sasquatch was not having it. Sean was sick that weekend, so he was saying how sorry he was that he sounded weird and looked sick and I told him that I hoped he got better and not to worry about it. Let me just tell you I hate getting my picture taken because I usually hate the way I look in them, but he insisted on taking a photo with me an giving me a hug and let me tell you that man is so hot in real life it is ridiculous, so it was amazing to get a hug from him.
David was of course funny because he's "The Funny Man." He not only signed cover of the dvd, but he also wrote on the inside of the cover my favorite quote, which is "Is it dead?" If you have never seen the movie there is a scene, where the brothers and Rocco are sitting around a table and Rocco gets fired up and bangs his fist on the table and his gun on the table discharges and hits the cat, and spatters it on the wall (very obviously dead) and he asks "Is it dead?"
I hope you enjoyed my ramblings about my awesome weekend and I hope you continue to read my blog. I have a couple of project going on including a swap, so photos of those will be posted soon. I also want to work on my first tutorial to post here.

St. Louis Horror Convention Part 2

Once I get the pictures from my camera downloaded I will have a bunch to discuss, but right now you will have to bear with me and make do with some convention pictures from my phone. First of all, I cannot express my love of cryptozoology enough. A lot of my work is of crypids and I watch and read just about anything and everything related. If you don't know what crypids are or what cryptozoology is, it is the study of creatures we are not sure exist or don't exist because we don't have enough proof to say they do. Such famous crypids are Bigfoot, Yeti, Chupacabra, and Nessie, The Lochness Monster. Well one of my goals in life is to meet Bigfoot and the St. Louis Horror Convention helped me fulfill that dream. Here is Sasquatch (Bigfoot) with Sasquatch (my boyfriend)

This particular Sasquatch has a gold tooth, loves his Elvis inspired sunglasses, and dancing. Now if I could just see one in the wild, then my life will be complete.

The other big surprise at the convention was a huge cake inspired by Swine Flu. I am one of those people that watches just about every baking competition and baking show. So when I smelled cake I came a runnin' and when I found the source I stumbled upon this edible masterpiece.

It's a little grotesque, but it was amazing. It was created by Patty Cakes of Highland, IL.
The sad part is we didn’t get to eat the cake, because it was served at the VIP Dinner and by the time we bought tickets they were sold out :(.
I promise Part 3 will be the last and it will finally contain the Celebrity Photos and other such fun.
Stay tuned,

St. Louis Horror Convention Part 1

This past weekend was the second annual Con-Tamination, which is a Horror convention here in St. Louis. It was my boyfriends and my first conventions, so we really didn't know what to expect. As soon as we heard the line-up we had to go. The headliners for the conventions were Eric Roberts, The Boondock Saints, Kane Hodder, Tony Todd, Brad Loree, and Bill Johnson. (if you don't know who some of these people are I will explain what they have been in later) We were also excited because they were showing independent horror films and they had some artists, which allowed me to grow my art collection. The convention wasn't super big, but they had enough vendors that my boyfriend was like a kid in a candy store. We arrived after work on Friday, checked into the hotel, and went to go check out the vendors. Watching his reaction to the vendor room was priceless, first of all he was so excited that he would go up to one vendor then see something else and go to a different vendor, without fully looking at what one vendor had to offer. Finally, I said why don't we go up and down every aisle so we don't miss anything and that was when he realized how ridiculous he was being. This is even funnier when you realize that my boyfriend aka. Sasquatch is 28, which is 5 years older than me and 6'2'', while I'm only 5'5'' and I have to reel him in and calm him down, serious kid in candy store syndrome. We met some of the nicest people in the vendor room, first of all Tim and Harley from the Tim-o and Harley Show, they do a podcast show about horror related topics on http://infernaldreams.net/. They were funny and really cool guys to talk to and hang out with, so I'm sure their podcasts are awesome, I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but maybe today I will. Second, was Dick Starr an artist from Louisville, KY, his work is amazing and trust me because I am pretty picky being an artist myself. If you like horror related art or would love to see what it would look like if annoying celebrities were killed ironically check out his website http://www.dickstarr.net/.  For the Celebrity Deaths he has a whole story about how they died and he even has a poll where you can vote for the next celebrity that he will "kill" in his art. Sasquatch and I had to get the Freddy and Jason "Blood Brothers" family portrait, it may look like it was done with colored pencil, but it is actually done with acrylics, Sharpie Paint pens, and some Prismacolor markers pen, I just loved how detailed it was. Dick was awesome to talk to and very humble, we talked for a long time about his art, horror movies, awesome t-shirts, (because I got an awesome Jaws t-shirt from Tim and Harley) convention celebrities, and many other things.

Another artist that we met was Johnny Bopp, his work is inspired by tiki and bright colors. I am a bright color person and I love The Creature from the Black Lagoon, so I had to own this. He also paints skateboards, if I could afford it I would have bought one for my walls. If you want to check out his work, his website is http://www.johnnybopp.com/

I have so much more to talk about, but I think this post is pretty long already so I will post more later especially when I get my camera back from Sasquatch so I can post photos of him with the celebrities.

Han Becca/ Chewsolo

I created this a while ago for the Weird Stuffie Swap on Craftster. My partner had put down Han Solo and Chewbecca among many other options that she would like for me to craft. I had and still am on a Star Wars kick lately, so I knew I just had to do an adorable combination of the two. I decided what would be better than Han Solo and Chewbecca getting into an intergalactic accident that left them both in one body, especially since they are best friends forever.

I developed a pattern for human bodies called a Nugget, which I used for this. I call them nuggets because like a chicken nugget they are cute and compact, I also call babies nuggets because babies are cute, tiny, compact people. This is the second person I have created using the nugget pattern, the first was Jimmy "the Rev" Sullivan from Avenged Sevenfold for my friends for Christmas.

Anyway back to Han Becca/Chewsolo, which I couldn't decide what to call him because I love both names

I wanted to make him as close to Han Solo and Chewbecca as possible, including belt and belt buckle, gun belt, and I wanted to give him Chewbecca's nose. I didn't want him to be straight down the middle so I varied how much each side was which and I think it turned out better than I could have hoped.

Side shot including the red stripe on the pants

Back

Han Becca was really fun to make and I really didn't want to give him up.

I love the way he turned out and he was really fun to make and I hope you like him too.

Craftster Challenge

I created this for the Craftster.org Toys, Dolls, and Playthings: Fantasy Challenge. We had a little over two weeks to create and upload pictures of our submission. The only problem was the moderator is/was having internet problems, so the voting has never happened and it has been almost a month since the challenge ended, Oh Well. I'm really not too worried about it because you don't win much, but bragging rights.

My Entry Read As Follow:

I am proud to introduce Flint Lockwood's latest and greatest invention.

Flint Lockwood Super Fast Food Botany

As some of you may have seen in the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Flint Lockwood is an inventor and until recently most of his inventions have gone haywire including the FLDSMDFR (Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator) which was featured in Cloudy.

His new invention combines the best of the FLDSMDFR and new technology to fix the problems that were caused by the FLDSMDFR, which included mutating food that will attack if you tried to turn off the Food Replicator.

Flint's new invention the Flint Lockwood Super Fast Food Botany or FLSFFB is a plant that produces fully cooked food in under 24 hours. The plant featured today is the Cheeseburger Plant. It was created by combining the DNA of a cheeseburger and a sunflower plant.

I had wanted to create food plants before and this fantasy challenge gave me the chance. It actually stands on its own! It is made with a combination of felt and fleece and it is all handsewn. I really enjoyed making it and I have a few more in the works so keep a look out.

Close Up

Look at Steve (Flint's talking monkey sidekick) he's trying to steal the cheeseburger

I did not make Steve, I received him during the Craft My Favorite Character Swap, but I thought he should be in the Photo Shoot too knowing that he would in fact try and steal the cheeseburger.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

First Blog and First Post

I have been wanting to start my own blog for a while now, but due to school and lack of subjects to talk about I never did. Now that I have graduated college and started my first job I have more time to be creative and that is what this blog is, a creative outlet. I am a crafter and an artist, I did not go to school for art, but I have taken as many classes as I could to learn new techniques and develop my ideas. Currently, I am a soft sculpture artist aka. I make stuffies or plushies ;) , usually out of a combination of felt and fleece. I am also working on opening my own Etsy shop to sell my creations as many people in the past have urged me to do. I am also dabbling into mixed media, specifically assemblage. So with this blog I would love to show my current work to the public, get feedback, and ideas. I love creating custom plushies and will post some of the ones I have done in the past. I will also post tutorials mostly because I love reading blogs with tutorials. I will also include post about fun trips or event that I go to. Basically, this will be a journal and will include my projects, craft swap items, tutorials, and anything else. I am always open to suggestions and feel free to ask me questions. I hope that you enjoy this blog and the future posts to come.
