Well, I finally broke down and created a Facebook page for FreakyCuteKreations on Facebook. I didn't create one until now because I was never really on Facebook, but since I've been on more and more lately I decided it was a good time to bring FreakyCuteKreations to Facebook. I find it a lot easier to work with than blogspot and I like how easy it is to update and share.
So, like me on Facebook!

IT'S SO FLUFFY I COULD DIE!!! (Despicable Me Unicorn, now with more story)
A little over a month ago my sister texted me and asked me to make her the unicorn from Despicable Me for her 22nd birthday. I was a little hesitant since custom stuffies take a good amount of time to create, but I did have a month until her birthday. I asked her how big she wanted it and her answer was 48"! I basically told her she was on crack and I wasn't making her a 4 foot stuffie. I played it off and I told her I would see what I could do, but I didn't think it would happen.
Needless to say I started working on it the very next day. There was NO WAY I was making it 4 feet, but I did settle on 18" for the body and 14" for the head. So for an entire month while I was creating a pattern, sewing, resewing, stuffing, etc I let her believe that she was getting a gift card instead.
I have no idea how long it actually took me, but if I had to estimate I would say about 40 hours.
-2 hour to research and sketch
-5 hours to create the huge pattern
-15 hours sewing, resewing, and handstitiching
-4 hours getting the stuffing correct
Not to mention the hours spent finding the exact right fabric colors, thread, and working out how exactly I was going to do everything. I know that these numbers might appear to be exaggerated, but trust me they aren't.
Creating a 3-D pattern out of thin air takes lots of time for sketching, resketching, figuring out sizing. I am constantly thinking "If I make the pattern this way, what will the end product look like?", "If I tweak this how will it affect my design?", etc.
A lot of the pieces on this stuffie and my custom stuffies are handsewn. The reason for that is I like the affect that handsewing gives. It also allows me to match up pieces better. On this piece the eyes, nostrils, tongue, horn, mane, tail, head, ears, and pink feet are all handsewn into place.
I take as much time as I need on any of my pieces to make sure that they turn out as perfect as possible because I WILL NOT send out a piece that isn't up to my high standards. My Art Teacher called my high standards being slow and meticulous, which is now a running joke between me and my friends

I loved the detail that I was able to put into the unicorn, like the crazy nostrils and pink line around the muzzle.
The thing I liked making the most was the unicorn horn. I had never done one before and I love the way it turned out. You can't really tell, but I used Metallic Gold thread to make the bulges and it adds that sparkle that every unicorn needs.
I hope you enjoyed what I created.
C&C Welcome.
